A stable thickness measuring machine for the metalworking industry
With the thicknessCONTROL MTS, 8202.LLT (CFK) Micro-Epsilon Messtechnik presents a particularly stable thickness measurement machine for the metalworking industry in C-frame construction. The thicknessCONTROL MTS 8202.LLT (CFK) measures the thickness and profile of strips and plates up to 50-mm thick. This worldwide unique design made of carbon-reinforced plastic (CFRP) offers high rigidity combined with low weight. The new C-frame allows use at large bandwidths of up to 1500 mm, thanks to its higher rigidity and stability. For bandwidths of up to 4 m and above, Micro-Epsilon offers closed O-frames. Portable solutions and faster traversing speeds are feasible for the first time by using CFRP. Laser profile sensors for thickness measurement are located at the tips of the C-frames. They work with a measurement line and thus have major advantages over the point-type lasers - the benefits of integrated compensation are especially felt with tilted and rippled metal strips. For the first time, the narrow measurement line allows for measurements of the thickness, longitudinal and transverse profile of individual strips behind longitudinal shears.
Unlike radiometric systems and isotopic methods, the laser line provides high spatial resolution, right up to the edge. The measuring machine can be removed from the line and used elsewhere (e.g. on other production lines) during the on-going process without interrupting the production processes. Moreover, a three-fold position acquisition has been achieved in order to monitor the penetration depth of the C-frame in the strip and thus to ensure the desired distance from the edge of the strip.
